Published in 2013, the purpose of the framework is to guide and support members and other interested parties to enhance their evaluation knowledge and expertise.
A competent evaluator brings together a variety of knowledge and skills within an overarching frame of an evaluative attitude and professional practice, for conducting evaluation activities. The AES Evaluators Professional Learning Competency Framework outlines the various domains of those competencies and how they relate to each other.
AES Evaluator Competencies for self-assessment
Since 2020, the AES Pathways Committee has been working with learnevaluation.org to offer a version of the AES Evaluator’s Professional Learning Competency Framework for use with an online self-assessment tool. There are 95 competencies included in the self-assessment across seven domains. The list encompasses the breadth of knowledge and skills required to do the task of evaluation in all the contexts in which it is used.
