Strategy as a dynamic system – looking for the relevance to evaluation

The paper that will be the focus of this discussion What is a sound strategy system? A systems thinking perspective has stimulated a lot of discussion about the five activities of strategy management; formulation, transformation of the organization, engaging stakeholders, executing strategy, and governing strategy. But what is the relevance to evaluation of this strategic management system? It has generated more questions than answers, including; What is the distinction between ‘Implement’ and ‘Execute’? Where is the assessment of performance under the current iteration of the plan, which would be expected to feed into revision to the plan?

Presenter details

Pierre Hadaya is a full professor at the School of Management at the Université du Québec à Montréal where he is also co-director of the Center of Expertise in Organizational Digital Transformation (CETNO) and coordinator of the SAP Alliance. His research and teaching activities focus on strategic management, organizational transformation and its governance, the business architecture approach, and the strategic alignment of IT (including IT Enterprise Architecture). Dr. Hadaya serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Strategy Professionals (IASP). As co-founder of the ASATE Group, he also collaborates with organizations that want to transform themselves in order to develop a competitive advantage. As a man who embraces life with open arms, Pierre cherishes his family and savors every opportunity to explore new horizons. Movies and books fuel his curiosity and he's a perpetual learning machine who believes that knowledge has the power to positively transform lives.

This is a special event organised by the AES Systems Special Interest Group. AES free events provide an opportunity for you to meet with AES members and others in the evaluation community and to share and learn from the experiences of fellow evaluators.
