Event overview:
Visual story telling is becoming better known in the evaluation space. The Story Catchers have been using visual story telling for qualitative evaluation and reporting purposes for many years. New technology has resulted in new tools and this includes the new product, ArcGIS StoryMaps.
ArcGIS StoryMaps combine maps, 3D scenes, embedded content, multimedia such as images and video reports, and more into an interactive narrative that can create awareness and affect change in our reporting process.
Learn how Susan uses and creates digital stories and other information relevant to the evaluation and incorporates them into the geographic information system (GIS). We will also explore how we organise the stories and briefings into collections and customise them with themes in an online interactive reporting process.
Presenter details:
Susan founded The Story Catchers - Stories for Purpose (2012) and co-created a methodology that uses documentary film and community participatory approaches in human-centred design, monitoring, evaluation, social impact measurement and reporting. This methodology supports communities in telling and sharing their stories and assists evaluators in understanding the complexities of community conditions of well-being and qualitatively assessing specific aspects of well-being. This methodology enhances the individual and collective voice and empowers communities to actively co-create and evaluate their projects and programs.
Susan has been using this approach to evaluation for over a decade, focusing on program design, development, evaluation, and reporting of various programs across Australia. We have worked in the areas of health, education, employment, energy, mining, and human service delivery for Local, State, and Federal Government organisations and NGOs.
The stories are utilised to assist in analysing the narrative data and create documentary reports (docu-video reports) accompanying the written reports. Our storytelling products create a more accessible and inclusive report delivery method for all audiences
