Event Description: 

This session will cover the background, principles and methodology of Social Return On Investment (SROI) then shift to focus on how it can be applied in a variety of settings through 2-3 illustrative snapshot case studies. The session will be useful for those with limited understanding of SROI as it will provide the context as to why and when to use in an evaluation. Those with more detailed understanding will gain additional insight from the case studies of SROI in action in different evaluation settings.

This free event has been organised by the AES Victoria Regional Network. Our seminar series provides an opportunity for you to meet with AES members and others in the evaluation community and to share and learn from the experiences of fellow evaluators.

About the Presenter

Kevin Robbie is the Managing Director at Think Impact, a leading social impact and sustainability consultancy in Australia. He joined Think Impact six years ago, attracted by their passion support organisations to better manage for impact. Kevin has worked on a wide range of projects across the private, government and for-purpose sectors supporting organisations to look at how to better create value for their wide range of stakeholders.

Prior to Think Impact, Kevin held a variety of executive leadership roles in the for-purpose sector in Australia and the UK. He started exploring approaches to evaluation back in the late 1990s and was introduced to Social Return on Investment (SROI) in 2002. He carried out his first SROI shortly after that, then led a project carrying out 15 SROIs in a variety of settings in 2005/06 for the Scottish Government. He was also a special advisor to the UK Government in 2007/08 with a focus on the role of SROI in impact investing. When he came to Australia, he worked for SVA for seven years and trained their consulting team in the new approach to SROI. He is now an advanced, accredited practitioner having worked on over 50 SROIs in a variety of evaluation settings and is on the assurance panel for Social Value International (SVI).
