Members are encouraged to bring along colleagues with an interest in the topic even if they are not yet members of the AES. Please pass this invitation onto your networks.
Data visualisation is a significant hot topic both here and overseas.
Whilst there has been progress, evaluation reports and presentations are often lagging in the presentation of data and information. Evaluators are challenged to reduce text, make reports less dense yet include enough content that engages and holds the attention of a range of reader audiences. Yet, we have less time to prepare reports and presentations.
We know that people more readily absorb information through visual means and that our evaluation audiences and decision-makers want to be able to quickly grasp key facts and findings. Like fast food - they want the ‘key takeaways’. Neuro science provides some helpful information that we can use to ensure that key messages are ‘sticky’ and retained to memory.
Data visualisation offers significant opportunities for evaluators to better communicate findings, to gain bigger and new perspectives on data, to prompt thinking, to allow readers to quickly eyeball large amounts of information and to easily digest and recall key facts and findings. This seminar will provide an overview of data visualisation methods that can be applied within an evaluation context.
